Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (Apprenticeship) inLondon inLondon PUBLISHED TUE 20 AUG 2024

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pre-registration Pharmacy Technician to assist with the provision of Pharmacy Services to patients and staff across all sites of UCLH to provide an economic, efficient and timely service following agreed departmental policies and procedures. This is a wonderful opportunity for friendly, reliable, forward-thinking individuals to further their skills and knowledge to become a Pharmacy Technician.

The post is full time and two years fixed term and will involve the candidates rotating through all of the specialist sections of the pharmacy Department whilst gaining their qualification

This training post will require the post holder to achieve a Level 3 Pharmacy Technician integrated apprenticeship standard, they will be required to attend either college one day per week or to participate in virtual learning. The post holder will participate in the provision of a comprehensive high quality Pharmacy service, while working to a structured programme of development. Trainees who successfully complete the training course will undertake an end point assessment consisting of portfolio submission, professional discussion and observation. Once this has been successfully completed the post holder will be eligible to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

  • To attend college or participate in virtual learning sessions one day per week
  • To agree learning objectives and review performance with their individual Educational Supervisor and Practice supervisor in each rotation
  • To develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviours of a registered pharmacy technician
  • To produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and behaviours gained through day-to-day role
  • To learn and practice effective communication skills and attitudes towards customers, including patient counselling
  • To learn and practice effective customer care skills
  • To advise patients and their carers /representatives on the safe and effective use of their medicines
  • To communicate effectively with patients and all other healthcare professionals
  • To accurately dispense a variety of prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients in accordance with department procedures
  • To maintain the daily routine of the dispensary under the direction of the appropriate Practice Supervisor
  • To participate in the ward stock top up service
  • To participate in the drug distribution service within the Trust and the community pharmacy service
  • To assist the clinical team with the provision of ward/clinical pharmacy services, as appropriate
  • To participate in POD training programme in line with department procedures
  • To participate in the Medicines Reconciliation training programme in line with department procedures
