The private office of the Chief Operating Officer delivers an intelligent, high-functioning executive support model to the COO responsible for strategic, operational and logistical activities and advising on all aspects of the role. It is a small team who ensure the COO has what they need to deliver outcomes and achieve change. Colleagues in the team give effective, insightful and honest advice to the Chief Operating Officer on all aspects of their operation – from policy decisions, resourcing asks to logistical arrangements.

As Executive Assistant you will be a pivotal player as part of a small high-performing Private Office team for the Chief Operating Officer of NHS England. The COO directorate is one of the largest in NHS England spanning a wide range of high-profile programmes including UEC, electives, and supporting challenged systems through the Recovery Support Programme. You will support the Chief Operating Officer and the team to deliver a broad list of tasks that will change from day to day, including managing the COO’s diary and other logistics. The role involves regular engagement with private offices at the most senior levels of government, other NHSE National Directors, and key external partners, and so high-quality stakeholder management skills are a core requirement of this role.

The Executive Assistant role requires you to deliver to exceptionally high standards, and at great pace. Attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset is required. You will need to be comfortable working at pace and managing multiple priorities and will be well supported by your colleagues to help achieve this.

In April 2023, NHS England, NHS Digital, and Health Education England merged to create a new, single organisation to lead the NHS in England. This new NHS England is designed to create a simpler, smaller, high performing, organisation that leads the NHS more effectively and is a better place to work.
