The Marie Curie Research Centre (MCRC) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the team as an Administrative Assistant. Based at Heath Park, Cardiff, the post-holder will provide comprehensive administrative support to the centre, engaging and completing a range of tasks to meet operational and customer service requirements. This will include dealing with administration queries, providing support and guidance to team members on administrative processes, procurement of goods and services, meeting and event organisation, minute taking, reporting on research activity and dissemination of results.

The post-holder will build close working relationships with the MCRC Senior Management Team and research staff, liaise with colleagues within Cardiff University School of Medicine and Marie Curie nationally, and act as the key point of contact for external enquiries.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in an administrative role.  They will have effective communication skills and the ability to use initiative to solve problems and respond to queries, finding and proposing the best solution.

The post is based at the Heath Park site.

The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.

Salary: £23,700 - £24,533 per annum, pro-rata (Grade 3). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

Provide support and guidance on administrative processes, ensure the Marie Curie Research Centre team is supported, and key duties undertaken.

Duties And Responsibilities



Key Duties


  • Deal with a range of enquires from internal (staff & students) and external (members of the public) customers in a professional manner, establishing their needs and adapting the standard responses accordingly.
  • Work with others to make recommendations for the development and improvement of current University processes and procedures.
  • Create good working relationships with key contacts to help improve service levels.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the team and department.
  • Gather and review data to update administrative systems such as databases and spreadsheets, making sure the information is accurate, and highlighting to your line manager basic trends and patterns.
  • Actively contribute to the success of the team and support the supervision and management of it.


Specific Duties


  • Produce documentation, plan and organise meetings, take minutes/notes and ensure any travel arrangements are made.
  • Support and advise on procurement of goods and services and liaise with relevant parties to ensure resources are available and efficiently allocated as needed.
  • Support dissemination of research results and centre communications with key stakeholders through agreed channels, such as monitoring the main email account, responding to queries and updating website content.
  • Support timely centre reporting through aggregation of information on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
