The Health Care Assistant is a member of the Outpatients nursing team involved in clinical and non-clinical duties in the Outpatients Department. The post holder will be responsible for assisting in the smooth running of outpatients clinics, he/she will support the health care professional in caring for patients and relatives who visit the department.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

  • Assist health care professionals in the treatment provided to patients during outpatient clinics by working effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives to ensure patients are kept well informed of any changes / delays to their appointment time.
  • Communicate effectively with clerical, nursing, and medical staff to facilitate good working relationships in areas of mutual contact.
  • Have responsibility for the collection and testing of urine samples and measuring and recording patient’s weight, height and blood pressure. Report any abnormalities immediately to the nurse in charge.
  • Act in the best interest of the patients always.
  • When required, assist patients with their mobility needs within the Trust’s Moving and Handling Policy.
  • Chaperone and assist medical staff during intimate examinations of patients.
