The Bail Information Officer (BIO) role with the National Bail Information Service (BIS) at HM Prison and Probation Service in Lewes involves preparing factual Bail Information Reports for Magistrate and Crown Court hearings where defendants are considered for release on bail. The position requires conducting interviews with defendants, gathering and verifying relevant information, and liaising with various stakeholders, including legal representatives and community services, to support the bail application process.

This is a non-operational, support-focused role that emphasises effective communication and collaboration, along with the ability to analyze complex information to identify public protection or safeguarding concerns. The job holder will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records within various IT systems and ensuring proper referrals to community organisations to address defendants' needs if released on bail.
