Job Summary


The post holder will act as a Senior Nursing Assistant, supporting the multidisciplinary citywide team, working under supervision of registered nurses. They will assist patients through the various clinics across the city provided by the service. This includes chaperoning doctors/specialist nurses in clinics, assisting with procedures and carrying our venepuncture. Microscopy training will be required if not already trained, support with skills and knowledge will be provided in order to be become competent in performing microscopy to assist with provisional diagnosis of infections within the Sexual Health Department. The postholder will keep the material resources well stocked in the clinical area and in the laboratory. They will be expected to rotate through managed areas within the clinic assisting in general care duties as specified below, under the overall guidance/supervision delegated by a Registered Nurse.

If starting as a Band 2, then once trained and assessed as competent in the band 3 role your banding will be changed.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Assist and chaperone the clinicians in a variety of clinics during the consultation and clinical examination of clients including, e.g. sexual health screening, gynaecology and intrauterine device clinics within various clinic settings adhering to Trust guidelines
  • To welcome clients and obtain relevant personal and clinical details as appropriate treating all such information as confidential in line with Trust policies and Caldicott principles.
  • To provide a fast track service for asymptomatic patients requesting a routine sexual health screen consisting of a urine sample or self-taken swab and blood tests. Ensuring samples are correctly labelled in line with sample acceptance guidelines.
  • To work in PrEP Express clinic, providing screening and assessment of patients.
  • Inform qualified staff of changes in patients` condition/observations
  • To undertake tidying and general housekeeping duties within clinic
  • To take all steps necessary to safeguard the welfare and safety of all persons within sexual health services and other venues during working hours, with regard to the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations and policies and procedures of the service.
  • To be non-judgmental to all client groups regardless of age/ethnicity/religion.
  • Welcome and orientate patients/clients/visitors and others to the department.
