The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to take on the role of Ward Manager for the A3 ward, which is part of the Orthopaedic and Trauma Unit at Wythenshawe Hospital. The ward specializes in the care of adult elective orthopaedic and trauma patients, including those with complex needs, particularly older adults living with frailty. The successful candidate will lead a 28-bedded ward, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care while managing clinical standards, staff resources, and budgetary needs. Strong leadership, communication skills, and a mentorship qualification, along with significant experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, are essential for this role.

A3 is a 28 bedded Ward that makes up the Orthopaedic and Trauma Unit (OTU). It delivers care for adult elective Orthopaedic and Orthopaedic trauma patients on the MFT Wythenshawe Hospital site. Within this cohort of patients, there is the recognition that older adult patients living with frailty have more specialist needs when they suffer trauma.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, dynamic nurse at Wythenshawe Hospital, to lead a 28 bedded Ward that makes up the Orthopaedic and Trauma Unit (OTU).
This requires an experienced and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Ward Manager on ward A3 .
Our key focus is to provide high quality care to our patients, many of whom have complex Orthopaedic conditions.
A successful individual must be highly motivated to take on this challenge meeting head on the pressure to maintain high standards and delivery of quality care, whilst leading the nursing team.
The post holder will manage all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice within the service and will manage and coordinate staff budget resources and the environment. You will help shape future services working and supporting the Matron and Lead Nurse within the Trauma & Orthopaedic Division.
Substantial experience as a Band 6 within Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery and hold a mentorship qualification is required. You must have excellent communication and strong leadership skills to uphold the standards and values of the trust.
You will demonstrate key leadership and management skills and will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership for a team of staff supporting the service, including utilising your leadership and clinical skills to meet the needs of the unit. The implementation of service development in line with the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and divisional objectives will be key, incorporating work to maintain the quality of the patient experience.
