Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Peer Workers to join our team on a fixed term contract until the end of March 2026. Peer Workers are individuals who have lived experiences of multiple disadvantages, such as Homelessness, involvement with criminal justice, substance misuse issues, mental health issues and domestic abuse. The criterion for this role is that Peer Workers have lived experience of at least 1 of the above disadvantages.
The Changing Futures programme is a £77 million joint initiative by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund has invested over £21 million, adding to the £55 million of Government funding, extending the length of the programme to help local partnerships develop longer term and more effective support for those in need.
The fund is for local organisations to work in partnership to better support those who experience multiple disadvantage, including homelessness, substance misuse, mental health issues, domestic abuse, and contact with the criminal justice system.
With this role you’ll be working for Change Grow Live but will also be a part of the established Changing Futures Multi-Disciplinary Team based in Brighton and Hove
Where Brighton
Hours 15 per week
Full time Salary Range £23,849,96 - £24,833.99 dependent on experience, (based on full time working hours, pro rata for part time hours)
Contract Fixed term contract until 31st of March 2026
We aim to create an environment where individuals experiencing multiple disadvantage can receive flexible, trauma informed, person-centred support when they need it, leading to increased periods of stability and more opportunities to make positive changes in their lives.
People in this situation are among the most vulnerable in our communities, often with past experiences of trauma. Getting coordinated support from local services can be difficult, and this can lead to greater risk of homelessness, ill health, and increased contact with the criminal justice system. This in turn can result in greater pressures on services that respond to crises such as A&E, policing, and homelessness services.
You will work to an assertive community team model by taking collective responsibility for clients worked with by the team, leading with individual clients and supporting colleagues in their work with individual clients.
Your role will be to draw from your own lived experience to support Service Users to engage with the Multi-Disciplinary Changing Futures Team and wider community-based projects. You will work with single people who are at risk of, or have a history of, experiencing homelessness and/or rough sleeping and have been identified as meeting the Changing Futures criteria as a person experiencing Multiple and Compound Needs (known as the client group) in various settings, including on the street supporting local outreach work.
No two days are the same and we treat every person who comes into our service as an individual, so being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.
You’ll have to record information about what you do, so enjoying a bit of paperwork and attention to detail is important. But most of the time you’ll be enjoying working with people from all backgrounds, making a difference to their lives.
We can offer flexibility to meet individuals’ personal circumstances. Our values are to be compassionate, open and bold. If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you so click apply.
Please ensure that when completing your application form and supporting statement, you reflect on the details outlined in the job description. This will help us understand how your skills and experiences align with the requirements of the role.
If you require sponsorship, please note that this role is not eligible for a Health and Care Worker visa.
