Specialty Registrar Locum Appointment in Training (LAT) in Neurosurgery
£45,504 - £71,550 per annum

Based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Hospital this full-time, Specialty Registrar LAT (ST4 or above) post is available from 5 February 2025 until 3 February 2026. There may the option to reapply for a further 6 month LAT post from February 2026 until August 2026. On call will be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and is part of a compliant band 2A on call rota.
Although one of the smaller Neurosurgical units in the country we take pride in the quality and range of neurosurgical services we provide. We have a full range of surgical capability in skull base, neuro-oncology, complex spine, vascular, pain management, CSF disorders. Paediatric Neurosurgery is undertaken at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. The ARI unit operates within the remit of the Managed Service Network for Neurosurgery in Scotland. It enables access to services in the larger units in Glasgow and Edinburgh for some interventions such as Interventional Neuroradiology, complex paediatric surgery, functional neurosurgery.
We have a very cohesive spine service with on call shared with two Orthopaedic Spine surgeons.
Neurosurgery has an in-patient ward with 17 beds. There is also a co joined ward for neurology patients. Neurophysiology and a planned investigation unit are also on the same floor. This post will be intrinsic to the safe running of the in-patient ward, which caters for elective and emergency admissions. Participation in the Emergency On-Call Rota is expected.
