We are seeking a dynamic Therapist who thrives in a fast paced environment where no two days are the same. You will have the opportunity to assess and treat a wide range of patient cohorts; frailty, falls, dementia, delirium, musculoskeletal injuries, neurological conditions and other long term conditions. Our team consists of occupational therapists and physiotherapists; we are an interdisciplinary team encouraging skill sharing to empower therapists to be holistic and autonomous practitioners whilst also appreciating profession specific competencies.
This is a role which sees a high quality, positive impact on its service users, reducing length of stay and encouraging patient involvement all stages of decision making. You will be primarily based within Accident and Emergency. We are an admission avoidance focussed service, however also appreciate the importance of early therapy intervention for those requiring hospital admission. You will be expected to be able to provide leadership within the OPAL (Older Persons Assessment and Liaison) team, which is multidisciplinary team working on the Acute Medical wards. This is a gold standard service which aims to complete CGAs to formulate holistic person centred treatments and discharge plans.
The Therapy Team in the Emergency Department also work as an integral MDT member of OPRAC team (Older Persons Rapid Access Clinic) where we complete therapy specific outcome measures and provide treatments such as equipment provision, home exercise programmes, advice, education, and refer/signpost to appropriate community services. This is a proactive in reach clinic to better health outcomes and improve quality of life for our elderly population.
Our service operates from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday with varied shift patterns of 7.5 hours. You will also be a part of the weekend service in OPAL and ED, prioritising patients medically optimised for discharge where you will then be allocated rest days.
As a team we champion Quality Improvement and you will have opportunities to be involved in Quality Improvement initiatives as well as multidisciplinary team education as part of this forward thinking clinical team. We embed the ethos of the campaign - NHS England’s ‘AHPs into Action’ to pioneer positive change. We also strive to deliver evidence based practise under the Royal College of Emergency Medicine guidelines to inform our projects.
We are an improvement and education focussed team and value the career progression and clinical development of our team. You will have access to a robust in-service training programme, clinical supervision and wider training and learning opportunities.
- The post holder may lead a team and be responsible for providing an advanced standard of care to patients at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust, which covers a multi-cultural and diverse population. The post holder will supervise the work of other more junior staff and support workers. The post holder may be rotational and will be expected to work across all sites of the ICHNT.
- The post holder will assist the Clinical Lead in contributing to the planning, coordination, development and evaluation of the service. Together with other senior staff, you will act as a resource of specialist advice to the rest of the therapy service and other professions.
- For therapy services where there is current weekend working, the post holder is required to work at weekends as part of their contracted hours of work once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies (specific rota details are held locally within departments).
