Job Overview

To assist with the management of the Unit on a day-to-day basis by supporting and acting on behalf of the Sister/Charge Nurse/Ward

Manager.

To assist the Sister/Charge Nurse/Ward Manager with service development

To be aware and demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing.

To work within codes of practice and professional guidelines

Work in conjunction with other disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

To promote evidence-based practise and act as an accountable role model and clinical expert

Main duties of the job

Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.

Support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.

Provide expert clinical advice to team members, and act as a credible clinical expert.

some patients may have barriers to understanding

To assess and interpret acute and patient conditions, appropriate action. Recognises and manages acutely unwell and complex patients

Assist and prepare for common invasive procedures undertaken at ward level

Provides extensive knowledge of early discharge/ admission avoidance schemes within primary care.

Liaises with community services and other agencies

Ensure safe discharge within the department.

Assists the Line Manager in effectively managing the nursing service, and the unit in line with Health Board requirements using a problem solving approach.

Assist the Line Manager to lead on service change and initiatives within the area of acute medicine.

Undertake risk assessments relevant to the area/department

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Essential criteria

  • Registered with NMC
  • Supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training, CPD to Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of management (staff and resources)
  • Teaching & Assessing or Equivalent
  • Evidence of continued Professional Development

Relevant Experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant experience at Band 5
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care
  • Able to manage time effectively, able to work in a team, demonstrate willingness to develop their role

Desirable criteria

  • Aware of the process of effective change management
