Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group, is looking for a motivated Trust Grade doctor of ST1-2 equivalent level to work in Acute Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) on a 1 year fixed term contract.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to gain clinical experience in Acute Medicine, rotating through the busy and varied acute assessment unit (AAU) and SDEC, including evening and weekend work on an acute medicine rota. Participation in quality improvement is also an expectation of the role.

The successful candidates will have full GMC registration and will have completed Foundation competencies (or equivalent). This role is ideal for an enthusiastic doctor seeking a period of focused training in acute medicine.


Main duties of the job


This role provides an exciting opportunity to gain clinical experience in Acute Medicine, rotating through the busy and varied acute assessment unit (AAU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). The post involves participating in the Acute Medicine rota, including evenings and weekends rotating through AAU and SDEC. The post-holder may also participate in the general medicine on-call rota if desired.

Successful applicants will be able to develop individualised educational goals, including pursuing any specialty interests. This post presents excellent opportunities to develop clinical skills with a high level of senior and consultant supervision. The post-holder will be expected to participate in audit, quality improvement and teaching and there may be opportunity to develop research interests.


The Main Duties Of The Post Are


  • To care for patients in the ward and arrange ongoing patient care
  • To participate in daily SpR or consultant-led ward rounds and board rounds
  • To be responsible for keeping accurate and contemporaneous medical records, ordering and interpreting investigations, writing electronic summaries and making referrals to other specialties.
  • To ensure that discharge summaries are written promptly and accurately.
  • To work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team for optimal patient care and to enhance patient flow
  • To flexibly support service needs as required
  • Supervising and performing clinical procedures.
