The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking to hire a motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) for the Theatre and Recovery Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high standards of patient care, working effectively as part of a team, and contributing to the safe management of patients throughout their surgical experiences. Although prior experience is desirable, training will be provided to equip staff with the necessary skills. The Trust emphasises staff development, offering clear career pathways for HCAs to advance into roles such as Trainee Nursing Associate or Operating Department Practitioner.
As a crucial member of the theatre team, the HCA will assist in ensuring the smooth operation of nine operating theatres that cater to various surgical specialisations. Expectations to deliver a high standard of service with patient safety and quality are a priority. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work within our Theatre teams to deliver the highest standards of patient care and have a flexible attitude to meet service demands. Applicants with experience are desirable however, training to achieve the standards required will be given.
The recruitment, training and development of our theatre staff is pivotal in the delivery of safe, efficient, and timely patient care. “Building outstanding theatre teams” is our ethos, and staff development is central to this. We are committed to the vision which is to “Grow your own” workforce. We have a clear Career Pathway which clearly maps out career paths staff can take within our department. We strongly encourage staff to develop themselves along this pathway, with opportunities available for HCAs to enter the Trainee Nursing Associate or to apply for the Operating Department Practitioner apprenticeship programme.

Our Theatre HCA's play an essential role in the smooth running of our theatres and help us maintain our exceptional levels of care. Theatre HCA's assist the wider theatre team with the safe passage of patients through the surgical pathway.
