The role of a Porter at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust involves safely transferring patients to and from various departments, using means such as walking, wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds. Responsibilities also include reliably conveying blood specimens and medical supplies, as well as patient notes and x-rays. Porters play a crucial role in the dignified handling of deceased patients, including their transfer to the mortuary, and in assisting with the arrival of coroner's cases in the absence of a mortuary technician. The position requires the use of a task management system (HIVE) for effective communication and tracking, including managing overnight transfers between 20:00 and 08:00.
