Job Summary

Ward 17 , is a 14 bedded Elective orthopeadic and trauma ward.

We are seeking a highly motivated Healthcare assistant to join our friendly and dedicated team. This opportunity isfor a comitted and dynamic individual to join a well established enthusiastic team.

The successful candiate will support the nursing stadd in assisting to care for patients with all activites

Main duties of the job

Ward 17 is a 14 bedded orthopaedic ward. Depending on elective admissions the ward also takes

trauma patients from the orthopaedic admissions ward .

You would be required to undertake longday/nightshifts 7 days a week.

We are currently recqruiting for a fixed term post of 10 months , with the potential of this being made

permanent

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the trusts values and behaviours.

The main duties will be varied, and including a team player, assisting patient with personal hygiene,

assisting patients during meal times, talking and listening to patients and working in partnership with

patients, carers and the wider team.

Plan and deliver high quality of care to patients adhering to trust policies and procedures

Demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written and work effectively within the

multidisciplinary team

Adhere to trust uniform policy

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Participate in admission and discharge of patients

Keep stock check of the ward

Report accidents/incidents to the nurse in charge

Maintain confidentiality of all medical and nursing records

Carry out observations and inform the nursing staff

Communicate with patients and families in order to promote comfort and well-being throughout their stay

Perform hoisting and transferring safely of a patient

Apply brace and splints as necessary

Support the care of all patients learning new orthopaedic skills

Collect specimens

Attend all mandatory training and Online learning to enhance knowledge

To assist in orientation programme for new staff

Participate in a personal development plan

Participate in patient education as directed by trained nurses

Keep the ward equipment clean and tidy

Project a professional appearance in behaviour and manner of dress

Welcome new patients and their relatives/carers and help them settle onto the ward

Answer the telephone and refer enquiries to the appropriate member of staff

Assist in promoting and open and friendly working environment

Encourage a good working relationship with the multi-disciplinary team.

To report any potential complaints or incidents to the ward manager/nurse in charge and participate in the process as appropriate

Adhere to the trust uniform policy
