Job Summary
The Research & Innovation Department has 2 new B6 research nurse/ midwife posts offered as a secondment or fixed term contract for 12 months. These are generic posts but will primarily be working in crit care, renal, neonatal and gynae departments.
Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an established track record in initiating and delivering quality research studies from the National Institute of Health Research, Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) portfolio.
The research nurse/ midwife role is key to the expert and timely delivery of studies for patient benefit.
Main duties of the job
The Research and Innovation Strategy is one of the seven enabling strategies underpinning the WUTH Trust Strategy for 2021-2026.
The primary aim of these posts is to promote and help deliver the current portfolio of studies through identification of eligible patients, conduct of the consent process, undertaking nursing elements of the study and completion of necessary documentation.
The postholders will have a leading role in the timely delivery of existing and new studies gaining expertise from buddying with existing Research Nurses and the NIHR CRNN Agile Delivery team. They will also work closely with local Principal Investigators and clinical teams.
Experience in research is not essential but would be an advantage. Excellent clinical knowledge and skills are essential, a keen eye for detail and accuracy, and excellent project and management skills.

- RGN with minimum 3 years post qualification experience
- ENB 998 or equivalent or relevant clinical experience OR evidence of continuous personal professional and academic development
- Evidence of continuous personal professional and academic development
- Educated to degree level in a health care related field
- Post Graduate qualification in Nursing or Research
- Certificate in Clinical Research
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of clinical research and/or clinical trials
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Clinical Research Nurse
- Knowledge of ethical and quality standards applicable to clinical trials, including EU Directive on ICH GCP requirements
- Understanding of the relevance of research to health care delivery and the ability to demonstrate knowledge of the specific research subject
- Previous experience within the research speciality
- Experience of co-ordinating clinical research studies
- Experience of liaison with staff at all levels in NHS, Universities and industry
- Ability to use a personal computer (computer literacy/ECDL)
- Skills in administration of research and project management
- Good communication, presentational, training and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the Health Service, R&I, the pharmaceutical industry partnership and relevant information services
- Understand the development or research projects (protocols and study documentation) and of negotiating research funding
- Skills in the analysis and interpretation of data skills required to evaluate and assist in developing new protocols
- Ability to work independently and prioritise own workload and to communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and cope in a highly demanding environment
