The post holder will be employed within the AMHP service with a view to undertaking their Approved Mental Health Act Training and eventually being employed as an Approved Mental Health Professional (at Band 7); AMHP Training will be likely to take place during 2026 but this is yet to be confirmed.
The AMHP Service provides the mental health input to Plymouths Joint Response Unit (JRU) vehicle; this involves working alongside our Police colleagues during the evenings and providing acute assessment and care and support to people experiencing mental health crisis in the community (responding in a marked response vehicle). You will participate in the JRU rota and contribute to this innovative service.
You also contribute to the overall organisational remit of supporting people with complex mental health difficulties within other teams and services within the MHLDN Services. In doing so, the role holder will be provided with the experiences required to enable them to be eligible for application for AMHP Training.
There will be a requirement to work across a 24/7 shift pattern; this will include taking part in an on call rota (once qualified as an AMHP) as well as a 24/7 shift pattern.
There is an expectation that the post holder will complete their AMHP Training. If they are unsuccessful in this, or later decide they do not wish to undertake it, they will be redeployed to another B6 role within the organisation.
You will support the service in undertaking its responsibilities under the MH Act 1983. The primary role of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service is to carry out statutory assessments on behalf of the Local Authority under the MH Act 1983.
There will be an expectation that you will complete your AMHP Training.
In addition to contributing supporting the daily functions of the AMHP Service, you will also undertake Social Circumstance report and attend risk management meetings. You will also undertake the Social Supervision role for persons who are subject to conditional discharge from the Ministry of Justice.
You also contribute to the Joint Response Unit vehicle rota and work closely with our partner mental health services providing clinical advice, guidance and support and undertaking joint mental health crisis assessments.
Flexibility is essential as you may be required to work beyond normal working hours and occasional out of area working. There will be a requirement to work across a 24/7 shift pattern.
The post holder may be required to work within a variety of teams across the service to support wider operational need.
This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
