37.5 hours per week. The Place of Safety situated at the CQC outstanding rated Glenbourne Unit is excited to announce that there is currently a vacancy within their well-established team. Full time hours are available within an environment that is purpose built for supporting those under the 135/136 Mental Health Act (1983) framework. The environment boosts a comfortable and supportive atmosphere to engage and care for those in crisis

The post holder will be an integral part of a team who take pride in their relationships with other agencies and professionals within the Plymouth and wider areas to provide quality, person centred care for those using our facilities. The post holder will be required to work closely the MDT, including building therapeutic relationships, advocating for our patient group, and compassionately working with carers and friends

An added benefit to this post is that the successful candidate will also work within the acute services that the unit provides, with access to weekly turbo teaching sessions to upskill and enhance staff knowledge and confidence. Weekly assess to reflective practice sessions and incident huddles to creatively process the invaluable work undertaken with our patient group and celebrate the many success stories we see

To work within a team that provides 24/7 cover of the adult place of safety.

To screen referrals, provide clinical advice and coordinate assessments with the support of the Referral Co-ordinators and Clinical Lead.

To provide compassion focused care to those in crisis and to problem solve in situations to prevent escalation.

Directly observe and therapeutically engage with those in your care, to be able to effectively handover information and escalate if required.

Have a good knowledge of physical health care and be confident in taking physical observations using the News2 tool.

Liaise with professions including Police, AMHPs and University Hospital Plymouth as well as other Mental Health Trusts and Organisations.

To feel confident working autonomously.

Accurate recording of clinical and admin-based information.

Provide care at a level to support acute wards with male and female patients.

Be adaptable to a changeable working day.

All Livewell Southwest staff are expected to able and willing to work across a 7 day service.

About us

To assist the trained nurse whilst working on the in-patient wards in delivering physical social and psychological care to the patient / client with mental health problems / illness.

The role of the Nursing Assistant within the Place of Safety will be an autonomous role supporting the co-ordination of Section 136/135 admissions to the Place of Safety Suite (POS) and accompanying the detained person whilst awaiting outcome of assessment.

The unit is looking for a male applicant to support the gender skill mix in the Place of Safety team and within the unit as a whole.

When not required to work in the POS suite, the post holder will be required to work within the Glenbourne unit. This may be as part of a team nursing complex patients with increased levels of observations. This may involve contact with relatives, carers and other agencies. They will carry out interventions as part of the care plans and record information using the CPA process.

The post holder will be directed to undertake tasks once adequate instruction has been given by the trained nurse and both parties are confident that the task can be fulfilled competently. However, the trained nurse is required to carry the responsibility for decision making and direction.

The role will be a dedicated role relating to the place of safety, the person will work closely with the unit coordinator/nurse in charge in facilitating activities within the pos suite. At other times that pos is not required will work as part of a team within the unit.

To work under the direction of a registered member of nursing staff, but at times will not have direct supervision.

To carry out efficiently and effectively task and instructions assigned by the trained nurse.

To undertake only those tasks for which she / he has had instruction and is competent to fulfill.

To maintain confidentiality in respect of the patient / client at all times.

To be aware of Health and Safety at Work Act and the implications for the work environment.

To know how to report accidents and untoward incidents and to do so promptly.

To obtain knowledge of Livewells policies, procedures and practices and carry out duties in accordance with them.

To be aware of legal issues and have an understanding of the Mental Health Act.

To support community activities either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.

To be an active member of the provision of care to the patient / client.

Co-facilitate groups with qualified staff.

To receive reports on patient care and be able to report back with observations to the nurse in charge within his / her competency.

Participate in the Glenbourne wide response team which responds to any untoward incident and undertake associated training.

To work within a team providing nursing care to complex patients with increased levels of observations.

To be willing to participate actively in appropriate in-service training programmes which the manager believes to be of benefit to the individual. To assume co-responsibility for maintaining skills and knowledge levels.

To assist the registered nurse to carry out, under direction, tasks which fulfill the patients / clients physical and psychological need, as identified in the Care Plan / Assessment.

Escort patients to other wards / departments or other areas designated by trained staff, which may include the community.

Contribute to the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care to patients. This to include participation in case review and assessment for admission / discharge process.

Make appropriate records in the multi-disciplinary patient file, which will then be counter signed by a registered nurse.

To assist the patients personal care and record patients observations in accordance with the Care Plan.

Record and manage patients property.

Undertake specific responsibilities designated by the Ward Manager / unit coordinator.

To undertake mandatory and other training as directed by the Organisation.

To participate in continuing role / personal development using the appraisal system.

To receive line management support and supervision.

To contribute to any audit process.

To behave in a manner which does not bring the Organisation into disrepute.
