There is an exciting future ahead at Solihull Hospital with the opening of a new Elective Surgical Hub in November 2024. To support this development, we are recruiting an experienced and dynamic Band 5 Nurse with 18 months to 2 years of post-registration experience to join our professional, well-established, and progressive team. We are looking for a professional who shares our department's vision of enabling patients to journey safely along the peri-operative pathway. The Pre-Operative Assessment Unit operates within UHB as a specialist team, working in a challenging and busy environment to assess a wide range of patients prior to surgery. This autonomous role involves taking ownership and responsibility for your clinic caseload, including assessing patients, following up on investigation results, and determining their fitness for surgery. As a nurse-led service, we provide a comprehensive in-house training package and will assign you a mentor to support you in completing your competencies. You must have completed all elements of undergraduate training and provide evidence that you have submitted your application to join the NMC register. The post holder will act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a consistent high standard of nursing/ Pre-Operative, the role generally involves leading the assessment and preparation of patients before they undergo surgery. This includes clinical, managerial, and leadership duties. The main responsibilities typically include: Conducting thorough assessments of patients' physical, psychological, and social needs to ensure they are fit for surgery. Reviewing medical history, medications, allergies, and risk factors. Ordering necessary preoperative investigations such as blood tests, ECGs, and swabs. Providing clear information to patients about the surgery, anaesthesia, and post-operative care. The post holder will regularly co-ordinate the department and take responsibility for ensuring the coordination and direct provision of high standard of holistic, patient centred care by assessing care, pre-operative care and health education needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for each patient. This role also involves contributing to the overall improvement of patient pathways and ensuring smooth, safe, and timely transitions for patients from pre-operative assessment through to surgery. As a visible clinical practitioner facilitate and promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment.
