Band Doctor - other: £73,113 to £110,330 a year per annum pro rata  PERMANENT 

The posts will be within HMP Wymott and HMP Garth in Leyland, Lancashire. The prisons are situated right next to each other on the same rural site near the village of Ulnes Walton.

HMP Wymott is a Category C men's prison with a capacity of approximately 1170 people, including those convicted of sexual offences.

HMP Garth is a Category B men's prison with a capacity of approximately 800 people, generally serving sentences of over 4 years.

Clinical Duties

Respond to medical problems presented by patients residing within the custodial environment.

The role will include diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate, in line with national or local guidelines and pathways. This will include prescribing for patients, the review of medications and monitoring of repeat prescriptions.

Perform clinical and non-clinical administration tasks that are required for patient care, or to fulfil wider NHS or HMPPS requirements.

Provide medical leadership and expert advice regarding medical and primary care issues to the wider healthcare team.

Deliver effective patient care.

Undertake appropriate clinical audit to improve clinical outcomes.

Promote multidisciplinary discussions around complex case management, and ensure systems and processes are in place for managing results, letters, and tasks.

Undertake clinical risk assessments and implement management strategies to mitigate risks.

Share and disseminate acquired knowledge with all team members through development sessions, clinical governance meetings, clinical case reviews and informal discussion.

Advise operational NHS staff on medical manners and liaise with them to communicate medical priorities to HMPPS staff when necessary.
