Band 3: £28,622 to £30,225 a year per annum incl. HCAS  PERMANENT 
To ensure child protection and safeguarding issues are acted upon promptly and appropriately.


Clinical

1.To be fully competent in all aspects of venepuncture as according to the Trust venepuncture policy and practice techniques maintaining competency levels through a six months re assessment protocol and participate in (PDP)-Appraisals

2. To cover Paediatric outpatient/ phlebotomy duties as requested on the daily Rota by the Paediatric outpatient manager and bring any problems to the attention of the line manager that may arise during the course of their duty

3. Prioritise workload and organises and carries out work that promotes quality

4. Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations:

- Blood pressure

- Pulse rate and rhythm

- Temperature

- Height and weight

- ECG

- HbA1C Blood glucose test

5. To learn and maintain an up to date knowledge of the blood tests performed and their appropriate bottles and containers

6. To label blood samples as directed by the venepuncture policies

7. To adhere to the phlebotomy standard operating procedure children under 16years

8. To carry out phlebotomy duties as agreed by the Medical team and bring any problems to the attention of the phlebotomy manager that may arise during the course of their duty

9. To ensure a high standard of cleanliness around all equipment and space used for phlebotomy and adhere to infection control policies

10. Using aseptic techniques whenever clinically indicated

The post holder works under indirect supervision of the Paediatric Outpatient Ward Manager and undertakes task and duties delegated by team leader or a suitably qualified, regulated professional. They will work collaboratively with the Multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures while providing supervision to more junior staff across paediatrics.

  • To pro-actively participate in the planning, assessing, implementation and evaluation of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team throughout the patient pathway using research based practice.
  • To deliver care in accordance with the Trust's and paediatric departments policies and protocols. To be aware of the organizational and nursing strategy
  • To ensure child protection and safeguarding issues are acted upon promptly and appropriately
  • Work autonomously and with others to always deliver high standards of care to patients and their careers, autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Communicate in accordance with Trust values, to patients, carers and staff at all times.
