Croydon University Hospital, serving the Croydon community, is a general hospital with comprehensive medical and surgical specialties, including a robust cardiology department. The facility boasts on-site cardiac catheterisation and a growing complex cardiac device service. The position not only provides valuable clinical experience—having previously led to successful consultant roles for former fellows—but it also encourages engagement with various postgraduate activities, all set in a vibrant area with excellent transport links to London and the south coast.
This post offers an excellent opportunity for a trainee to further develop their skills in all aspects of cardiology but primarily the post holder will be working towards developing skills to a high standard in the management of cardiac arrhythmia and cardiac devices. This will include protected time for training in the implantation and follow-up of simple and complex cardiac devices (ICD, CRT and conduction system pacing).
The Complex Cardiac Devices Service commenced 12 years ago and has grown significantly in that time into an established service with a dedicated "Devices Team" comprising doctors, cardiac physiologists and specialist arrhythmia nurses. The post holder will be integral to delivering and supporting the ongoing expansion and development of the devices and arrhythmia services working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy department.
Of the four Devices Fellow post-holders since inception of the service, two have gone on to acquire a Consultant Post and both the others have been successful in acquiring a SpR NTN in Cardiology.
