We are delighted to advertise for a Senior Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine here at UHS.

You will be working alongside an enthusiastic team of Paediatric Emergency Medicine consultants, trainees, nurses and allied health professionals to deliver our emergency care service for the children of the Southampton area as well as working the regional Major Trauma Centre. We are a busy department that sees over 35000 children a year and the single front door for all ill and injured infants, children and young people at the trust.

This role(s) is on the dedicated CED middle grade rota. The successful applicant will deliver clinical time in CED developing their skills in Paediatric Emergency Medicine with dedicated time to develop skills in an area of their choosing ie Quality Improvement, Trauma, Simulation etc.

This post would be ideal for someone who has completed basic paediatric or EM training and is keen to develop further skills in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

About us

WHAT YOULL DO

The post holder will be providing clinical service to the Childrens Emergency Department the full shift middle grade rota (days, mids, twilights, nights). This work will predominantly include clerking new patients and some reviews of patients in out short stay unit. You will be involved in looking after acutely sick or injured children in resus.

Your time will be spent on a full shift rota in the Childrens Emergency Department with dedicated education and personal development time.

The post holder will be expected to manage children within the footprint in any of these clinical areas with support where required. Where relevant to training, doctors will be supported in mapping their experience to the PEM, Emergency Medicine and Paediatric curricula.

The post will also be expected to contribute towards our extensive education programme. As well as teaching and learning opportunities you will also be able to actively participate in ongoing Research as part of our ongoing commitment to PERUKI and PEM research. You will be able to actively participate in quality improvement initiatives with a focus on your preferred area of interest and with support in building your skills, knowledge and leadership abilities.

Depending on your chosen are of interest your fellowship roles and responsibilities may include: Paediatric Trauma, Quality Improvement, Simulation, Education, Wellbeing

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

You will have the following as a minimum:

Full GMC registration.

Completion of training to ST4+ with either RCPCH or RCEM

APLS/EPALS provider

NHS experience

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post.

The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.

Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Basic Salary MT04 £61,825 Basic Salary MT05 £70,425

Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5; Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training Hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g FRCP, FRCA, FRCS) A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee)

Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.

Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.
