Job description
An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist, to join our multi-disciplinary Respiratory Care Team across North West Surrey.
This is a fixed term opportunity with potential to extend. To succeed in this post you will need experience of managing patients with chronic respiratory disease at a Band 7 or Band 6 level in a health setting. You will have experience of working autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate must have good communication and organisational skills with a flexible approach to meet the ever-changing needs of the service.
This role is integral to the multi-disciplinary team and supports: unplanned admission avoidance where appropriate; post discharge support; community clinics; home visits and is involved in Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Ambulatory Oxygen prescription, a home Non-Invasive ventilation service, research and other innovative schemes.
The team strives to ensure evidence based practice and to provide an effective high quality service by setting standards and ensuring they are monitored and maintained.

The role of the Respiratory Physiotherapist is to undertake a significant specialist clinical case load, taking a leading role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with long-term conditions. These patients may have complex presentations.
To take a lead role in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Respiratory Care Team on a day to day basis.

Principal duties to include:
To communicate effectively with all disciplines involved in a patients care both those within the organisation and those outside to ensure effective multidisciplinary working
To advise other disciplines both internally and externally to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to care.
To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news relating to their rehabilitation/recovery potential
To be able to communicate highly complex information sensitively to patients in order to gain cooperation for treatment and valid consent.
To use persuading and influencing skills to encourage patients to self manage their conditions
To ensure timely and effective communication with the line manager on all professional matters.
To attend relevant meetings and case conferences as appropriate in order to ensure appropriate management and effective and timely discharge of patients and coordination of care and care planning.
To attend and chair meetings and actively participate ensuring understanding of information imparted
To appreciate cultural differences and take these into account when agreeing treatment plans with patients.
To initiate and maintain contacts with local and national clinical interest groups appropriate to the clinical field and to share and disseminate knowledge with colleagues working within the directorate
To assess patients understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid consent and have the capacity to work within the legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent.
To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients in order to progress rehabilitation/recovery and treatment programmes. This may include patients who will have difficulties in understanding or communicating, e.g. patients who may be deaf, blind, or be unable to accept diagnosis or presenting condition.
To frequently manage highly stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner
