The Clinical Nurse Specialist and Screening Coordinator at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust will play a vital role in advancing the initiatives to achieve zero new HIV infections and eliminate hepatitis C by 2025. This position involves implementing and maintaining blood-borne virus (BBV) opt-out testing in the Emergency Department, ensuring that patients who test positive are tracked and linked to appropriate care pathways. The specialist will collaborate with various departments, oversee electronic pathology reports, manage follow-up for indeterminate tests, and raise awareness of the screening pilot.

Additionally, the role includes providing education, counseling, and advocacy for patients, training emergency department staff, and establishing connections with support agencies. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will also be responsible for monitoring laboratory reporting processes and will work alongside the Viral Hepatitis Data Manager to prepare reports for NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
