1. With a high level of skill and accuracy, to assist in the delivery of radiotherapy treatments using external beam radiation and/or sealed sources.
2. To assist the therapeutic radiographers in the planning and marking up of patients treatments alongside clinicians and other team members.
3. To be actively involved in the pre/post planning processes, including treatment course scheduling, calculations for treatment dose and programming of the treatment plan using computer systems.
4. To actively undertake QA procedures within the department, including: Responsibility for preparation of Radiotherapy treatment and planning machines, for daily clinical use Invivo dosimetry monitoring daily radiation dose to the patient Treatment image review, including on-line corrections Fault Reporting
5. To ensure patients holistic needs are cared for, by involving other health care professionals where necessary.

Radiotherapy is the use of radiation to damage and kill diseased cells. Its main use is found in cancer treatment, where it canbe used on its own, or as part of a wider treatment, which may also involve surgery or chemotherapy. TherapeuticRadiographers work in the radiotherapy department to plan and deliver radiotherapy.
The radiotherapy department at NNUH is a networked, paperless department. We have a managed service contract whichallows us to purchase and maintain state of the art radiotherapy equipment, including a fleet of five Varian TrueBeam linearaccelerators, two CT simulators, a Varian Bravos brachytherapy unit and an Xstrahl 150 superficial unit. Our dosimetryplanning is radiographer-led, predominately using VMAT and IMRT. We also have radiographer-led on-treatment review andradiotherapy late effects services.
We are looking for forward thinking, team players, who want to take up this exciting degree apprenticeship opportunity. Thesuccessful candidates will study to gain a BSc (Hons) Degree in Therapeutic Radiography whilst working in the radiotherapydepartment. The degree apprenticeship will be delivered as a 3-year programme in Therapeutic Radiography with on-the-jobtraining and specific academic support from the University of Hertfordshire (20% protected time). Most of the taughtelement of your degree apprenticeship will be undertaken remotely, although there will be a short placement at theuniversity base each year. On completion of the training period, the employee will be expected to qualify as a TherapeuticRadiographer and gain HCPC registration in order to practice.
The Apprentice Therapeutic Radiographer is part of a team who is responsible for planning and delivering high qualitytreatment to cancer patients. The radiotherapy department is open weekdays between 7.00 and 20:00 and your shifts willbe allotted between these hours.
