Due to the internal movement of staff members, there is an exciting opportunity for a committed Speech and Language Therapist to join the Specialist Learning Disability Service in Buckinghamshire. The service is based across Buckinghamshire, with a base in Aylesbury, a base in High Wycombe and opportunities to work flexibly from home also. The successful candidate will work as an influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team and will join the well-established Speech and Language Therapy service. This is a development post and ideally suited to a Newly Qualified SLT interested in Learning Disabilities. We welcome applications from SLT graduates and those due to qualify in the near future. Newly qualified SLTs will be supported at Band 5 level and following completion of a competency framework, they will be transferred to a Band 6 role without the need for additional recruitment. We also welcome applications from more experienced therapists and applications from SLTs already working at Band 6 level.
You will support Adults with Learning Disabilities who have communication needs and those who have dysphagia needs as your skills develop, in line with the band 5-6 competency framework developed by the Trust. We would consider applications for candidates who have a specialist interest in communication and wishing to work within communication services only, and applications from those who would like to develop both their communication and dysphagia skills. Service Users range from having a borderline Learning Disability, to having profound and multiple Learning Disabilities, in addition to comorbidities (such as Epilepsy, Dementia and acquired neurological conditions). You will receive regular clinical supervision and support from the members of the Speech and Language Therapy team, peer supervision and will be actively encouraged to participate in continuing professional development. You will have the opportunity to work creatively and support with service development. The team is an integrated MDT and joint working is typical of the team's working style and ethos.
