The Band 4 Medical Secretary for Neurology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust will deliver comprehensive secretarial support to the Consultant(s) and their medical team, enhancing their clinical efficiency. This role requires the individual to utilize their initiative and judgment while ensuring confidentiality, and to assist in training and supervising other medical secretaries and clerical support staff. The Medical Secretary will serve as an empathetic point of contact for patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals, handling communication and problem-solving tasks, often in sensitive or high-pressure situations.

The position demands excellent organisational skills to manage day-to-day tasks effectively while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. The Medical Secretary will participate in team meetings and contribute to the integration of new systems and initiatives aimed at improving patient services. Additional responsibilities include managing phone communications, maintaining office equipment, and providing coverage during team absences, all while adhering to national and trust guidelines and maintaining a supportive atmosphere among staff and service users.
