The Medical Laboratory Assistant (Research) role at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust involves supporting the Pathology Team on a permanent full-time basis. The position requires the handling and safe storage of blood and body fluids, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety protocols and maintaining sample integrity throughout the laboratory process. Key responsibilities include managing specimen receipt, preparation, and disposal, assisting with dissection and embedding, cleaning laboratory surfaces, and maintaining equipment. Additionally, the role entails accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information System and compliance with regulatory standards set by UKAS and other relevant authorities.

The post holder will work across various Trust sites and will contribute to training new Medical Laboratory Assistants as well as participate in continuous professional development. Administrative duties include record-keeping for compliance purposes and ensuring adherence to local and national data management policies. The successful candidate must prioritize health and safety, complete mandatory training, and report any incidents or risks as required.
