Applications are invited for this post within the Orthopaedic spinal service at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated advanced physiotherapist to add to our existing team. The post holder would be expected to have the required knowledge and skills to assess and treat patients across the full range of Orthopaedic Sub-specialisms. However, a keen interest and some previous experience of assessing and treating patients with spinal pathology is required.

The post holder will manage a caseload of complex MSK spinal patients from triage to discharge in line with current best practice. This will include assessment, referral for and interpretation of diagnostic tests as well as appropriate listing for spinal procedures. They must be able to work both independently in stand alone spinal clinics as well as alongside our physiotherapy, nursing and consultant colleagues. They must be able to effectively triage both urgent and routine electronic referrals and present cases for MDT discussion.

They will be part of a wider team of advanced orthopaedic physiotherapists covering both the hospital and community sites.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training Essential

• Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
• Evidence of enrolment (or ability and commitment to enrol) on full MSc Advanced Clinical Practice/or equivalent MSc level education.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

• Non-Medical Prescribing if appropriate to registered profession / role
• Relevant role specific qualifications
• Leadership/management course or validated portfolio evidence

Knowledge & Experience Essential

• Significant experience of working as a registered practitioner in a provider organisation
• Demonstrate an up to date and detailed knowledge of relevant guidelines and clinical practice in the speciality.

• Evidence of recent teaching, mentorship and supervision of staff
• Evidence of recent audit and/or research experience
• Evidence of involvement in change management and/or clinical service improvement.

Physical Skills & Emotional Effort Essential

• To carry out assessments and treatments of patients for several periods with moderate to intense physical effort whilst carrying out concurrent activities
• To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression caused by their clinical condition or co-morbidities, including where legal implications are present.
• Requirement to lead patient conversations about psychological and emotional impact of their condition and conduct debriefs with patients
• To deal with distressed service users, and give unwelcome news regarding limited expectations from rehabilitation.
