The Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner in Emergency Care at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is responsible for the therapeutic assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients across various units, including Emergency Care and Short Stay Ward, under the indirect supervision of qualified Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. The role includes conducting outreach visits, assessing functional and mobility needs, and providing guidance on equipment and adaptations necessary for patient care. The practitioner will develop treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and collaborate with families and external services to ensure safe hospital discharges and ongoing support.

Candidates are expected to manage their own caseload while adhering to protocols, demonstrate advanced knowledge of urgent care practices, and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings. The role necessitates proficiency in communicating complex information to patients with various communication challenges, and it involves both clinical and non-clinical duties, including the training of less experienced staff. Preference will be given to current Trust staff and those with relevant experience.
