As a progressive department, our intention is to recruit a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful applicant will undertake anaesthetic sessions across a wide range of surgical specialties. There are a total of 10 PAs within the job which could be filled by a variety of options from the existing pool of uncovered lists and flexible cover for consultant leave.
As a large anaesthetic department we support both local and international trainees and have an active educational programme. The successful candidate will hold the FRCA, or equivalent, and have extensive experience and evidence of extended training in aspects of general anaesthesia. We particularly welcome applications from motivated individuals keen to invest in the development of the service and contribute to a positive departmental culture.
The core component of this post is to provide anaesthetic cover for a range of specialty lists.
The post holder must understand the significant ongoing changes in the Trusts services and be prepared to take an active part in the change program.
A standard full time job plan will contain 10 programmed activities which could be filled by a variety of options from currently uncovered lists and flexible cover for consultant leave.
UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population. The anaesthetic department at the QEHB site is made up of over 130 consultants providing the full spectrum of tertiary and secondary care services.
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
Evidence of extended training and experience in anaesthesia for surgical specialties such as general surgery, plastics, emergency and urology
Experience in the peri-operative care of patients including pain management
Recent experience in leading the management of Major Trauma patients and their intraoperative care.
SKILLS & ABILITY
Leadership skills and experience of developing multidisciplinary and multi professional teams.
Builds a strong and effective relationship with patients, relatives and colleagues
Ability to gain confidence and trust
Ability to cope with pressure and adapt to change
