We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse manager to join our oncology and Haematology helpline and Acute oncology lead at Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering the Helpline oncology and haematology service. They will provide a learning culture, delivering evidence based practice and co-ordinating the multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality patient experience. They will lead in clinical practice in the department, ensuring that clinical standards are upheld and best practice is followed at all times.

You must have strong leadership and managerial skills as well as skills in developing services and staff. You must have substantial experience in oncology/haematology with the skills and knowledge of delivering SACT.

The lead acute oncology nurse specialist will be a key player in the development and delivery of acute oncology services to enable and support early, timely and effective care for patients presenting with complications of cancer/cancer chemotherapy.

They will provide a specialist nursing service undertaking assessment and triage of patients with a known or suspected cancer diagnosis and those patients of unknown primary, ensuring rapid referral to the appropriate oncology service and timely access of any required investigations/service interventions.

• To provide professional nursing leadership for the helpline team.
• To provide focus and vision for the nursing activity for the helpline and to lead the nursing team.
• The post holder has 24 hour responsibility for the day to day management of the helpline team
• To be able to select, develop and motivate a team.
• To lead a team towards local, divisional and Trust objectives.
• To recognise, prevent and defuse potential areas of conflict and take a key role in themanagement of the outcomes.
• To be able to prepare and present reasoned discussion based on facts, convince othersand resolve claims for competing resources.
• To work within the NMC code of professional practice and within policies, proceduresand guidelines of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust.
• To take 24-hour responsibility of clinical leadership for the Helpline.
• To act as a clinical role model, ensuring clinical expertise and practice is enhanced
• To ensure the ward/department has appropriate Link Nurses and support the undertaking that role.

• To support the lead oncologist in quality assurance/cancer peer review.

• To develop and integrate the acute oncology service model into clinical practice alongside other members of the acute oncology service.

• To ensure the clinical learning environment is conducive to effective learning.
• To create and maintain networks beyond the ward/department, sharing good practice and information.
• To promote and lead Patient and Public Involvement strategies in the clinical area.
• To ensure patient information related to specialty is accurate, up-to-date and accessiblefor patients.
• To participate in research and the development of initiatives in practice and encourage
• others.
• To ensure clinical practice is evidence-based and act when standards are not being met.
• To identify the need for, participate in and support others to participate in, audit, ensuring agreed results are implemented.
• To lead in the standard-setting process, maintain consistency and take appropriate action where necessary.
• To ensure benchmarking is an integral part of the ward.

• To work closely with members of the Trusts cancer management team and other appropriate health and social professionals to co-ordinate, influence and develop acute oncology services within and across the primary, secondary and tertiary care settings, in line with local, network and national guidance and standards.

• Work with the cancer management team and acute oncology service MDT to support the annual peer review process and to ensure effective nursing leadership is integrated into the process.
