The role of Specialist Pharmacist at Independent Health Group in Peasedown St John involves providing expert leadership in pharmacy practices to ensure compliance with legislation and high professional standards in medication management. The pharmacist will develop, implement, and review pharmaceutical care policies to deliver excellent patient care, advise medical personnel on the safe and cost-effective use of medications, and oversee the safe management of medicines across services.

In addition to maintaining registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and fulfilling ongoing training requirements, the Specialist Pharmacist will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to address medication-related issues, contribute to clinical governance, and manage any pharmaceutical incidents effectively. The position also entails conducting training related to medicines management and participating in clinical review meetings while ensuring adherence to data protection regulations.

To provide expert pharmacy leadership to ensure Independent Health Group is operating within current legislation, accepted professional and ethical standards and clinical requirements. To plan, deliver and review pharmaceutical care to ensure the care patients receive is excellent.

Be accountable for ensuring effective policies and process are in place to ensure safe and effective use of medication across all services. Leading improvement workstream as required.

Management of medicines:

To provide expert pharmacy leadership ensuring effective policies and process are in place to ensure safe and effective use of medication across all services.

To provide advice and support to the Medical Director, Chief Nurse, and other clinicians to ensure the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medicines.

To ensure Independent Health Group have safe and effective processes in place for the safe management of medicines, ensure compliance with current legislation and professional standards

Ensure any incidents involving medications are managed and appropriate actions taken. Leading improvement workstreams as required.

To maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) fulfilling the continued professional development, ensuring any specialist training requirements are kept up to date.

Provide training related to medicines management as required.

To undergo annual individual performance review.

Communication

To liaise closely with other healthcare professionals in relation to patient care related to any matters relating to medicines management.

To maintain patient confidentiality and always meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

To attend and actively contribute to Clinical Review meetings.
