Band 7: £46,148 to £52,809 a year Pro-Rata (30 hours per week)  PERMANENT  GOOD SALARY 

Following an internal move, we have an excellent job opportunity which provides leadership and highly specialist clinical input to support children and young people with autism and SEND alongside another similar B7 post. Our team is part of the autism diagnostic pathway and we work closely with the MDT including Paediatricians and the Autism Outreach Team. We also provide support and intervention for children and families including group and individual input. We are very proud to do this against a background of increasing demand for our service and we have deployed innovative strategies to address these issues. Our department is involved in multi-agency work to develop and improve the neurodevelopmental pathway for children and young people who are neuro-diverse.

You will be based mainly at Sunderland Childrens Centre but you will also work across education and community settings. Excellent support, supervision and training will be provided. You will join our well-established Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) service which covers South Tyneside and Sunderland. You will have opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills. As a team we work together to provide the best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are our key asset to improve patient outcomes. You will be keen to drive services forward as we change and develop. You will align to our vision and values to improve patient care.

We provide Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) across South Tyneside and Sunderland. We are in the process of aligning services across South Tyneside and Sunderland to improve patient outcomes and equity across our area and you will be involved in this exciting work too.

You will:

  • Have significant experience and expertise of working with children with SEND and autism, including the diagnostic pathway
  • Experience of teaching and training others
  • Have excellent prioritisation, communication and team working skills
  • Be well supported within a large, forward thinking department which is embedded in a successful Therapy Services Directorate
  • Have a proactive and flexible approach to problem solving and caseload management to ensure we take the service forward to support care across a range of settings to meet caseload challenges
  • Meet the travel requirements of this post.

  • To provide highly specialist SALT assessment and diagnosis within the Diagnostic Pathway for Children and Young People with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) age 0-18.
  • To take a lead role as part of the MDT diagnostic team working together with the SALT Operational Lead and Head of Service and Consultant Paediatricians to provide timely Language and Communication assessments that contribute to a diagnosis of ASD.
