The "Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist" role at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust involves providing clinical leadership and specialized support for children and young people with autism and special educational needs (SEND). The therapist will be integral to the autism diagnostic pathway, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) that includes paediatricians, while delivering individual and group interventions to children and their families. The position, primarily based at Sunderland Children's Centre, offers opportunities for professional development and requires significant experience working with neuro-diverse populations, teaching and training skills, and effective communication and team collaboration.

The successful candidate will engage in innovative strategies to meet the increasing demand for services and help shape the neurodevelopmental pathway for these children. Responsibilities include conducting assessments contributing to diagnoses of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), delivering post-diagnostic support, and supporting the alignment of services across South Tyneside and Sunderland to enhance patient outcomes. Overall, this role is key to driving forward service improvements and developing the skills of staff within a supportive, forward-thinking therapeutic environment.

More about the NHS
The National Health Service (NHS) is a cornerstone of healthcare in the United Kingdom, established in 1948 with the simple yet profound principle of providing healthcare to all citizens, free at the point of use. This revolutionary system aimed to ensure that access to medical services would not depend on an individual’s financial situation, a concept that has since become fundamental to British societal values.Learn more...
