In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Deputy Ward Manager will be expected to demonstrate competence in using medical equipment and provide expert nursing guidance to the multidisciplinary team. They will also play a crucial role in risk management related to symptom treatment and are encouraged to be innovative within the unit. Overall, this position demands a confident and capable nursing leader committed to enhancing patient care and the development of their team.
To provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the unit which empowers staff to deliver patient centred evidence-based nursing care. To work within a team, to supervise, nurture, counsel and develop the knowledge and skills of staff.
Ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to patient centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives / carers.
Take overall responsibility when leading a shift for ensuring that the compliment of staff is appropriate to deliver the service from a skill mix and skills perspective.
Utilise their professional skills and knowledge obtained through learning and experience.
To continually assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care of patients without supervision.
Work closely with the multidisciplinary team providing them with professional and clinical nursing expertise.
Able to give patients a balanced view of risks and benefits of symptom management.
Be competent in the use of equipment used to monitor patients, i.e. 12 lead ECG, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, infusion pumps and intravenous drug therapy.
To provide managerial and professional responsibilities through the professional team structure/framework. To be an innovator.
To be a competent and confident nurse in charge within the unit.
