Location: Hybrid (with in-person commitments in North Somerset)

Time Commitment: Approx. 12 days per year

Salary: £7000 per annum, with reasonable expenses covered

Pier Health Group, a forward-thinking Primary Care Network (PCN) and Super Partnership, with the added layer of an additional Limited company, based in North Somerset, is seeking a dynamic and committed External Non-Executive Director (ENED) to join its board

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance and contribute to discussions on organisational priorities.
  • Offer expertise in areas such as governance, finance, community engagement, or healthcare innovation.
  • Champion diversity, equality, and inclusion in decision-making.
  • Act as an ambassador for Pier Health Group, fostering relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Hold the executive team accountable for delivering high standards of care and operational performance.

We are looking to appoint a passionate, experienced, and strategic Non-Executive Director (NED) to join our PCN Board. The ideal candidate will share our commitment to addressing health disparities, have a deep connection to the local community, and bring valuable governance experience to support the delivery of our long-term goals.

Primary responsibilities

Providing independent, strategic advice to the PCN board, contributing to discussions and decisions with a strong focus on delivering high-quality patient care and reducing health inequalities.

Championing the voice of the local population, ensuring that our services reflect the needs of our diverse communities and help address the social determinants of health.

Supporting the development of a sustainable, high-performing healthcare system that maximises the use of resources while safeguarding clinical quality and safety.

Offering guidance on governance, risk management, and organisational strategy, ensuring the PCN remains compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Building relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, NHS partners, and community organisations, to support integrated care and collaboration across sectors.

Contributing to the strategic direction of Pier Health group, setting overall vision, defining goals, and setting targets and evaluating performance and safeguarding its financial sustainability.

Providing good governance oversight to ensure compliance with the law and good practice

Scrutinising board papers, contributing to discussions, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives

Supporting, constructively challenging, and motivating the Chief Executive and other senior staff members

Providing meaningful challenge and stewardship on the delivery of agreed outcomes, and fostering a learning environment, particularly when endeavours are not successful.

Enabling a just culture, encouraging transparency, accountability and openness

Working in a collegiate way with fellow Board members to support the Chair and to provide timely, robust decision-making and leadership.

Model good leadership behaviours; honest self-reflection both collectively and individually, positive disruption, integrity and compassion.
