Band Consultant: £105,504 to £139,882 a year pro rata  PERMANENT  GOOD SALARY

The Medical Examiner role at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust involves providing independent scrutiny of non-coronial deaths in both acute hospital and community settings. Medical Examiners are expected to dedicate one session per week while continuing in their primary senior medical positions as General Practitioners or Senior Hospital Doctors. Responsibilities include reviewing the circumstances surrounding deaths, collaborating with Attending Practitioners to ascertain causes of death, communicating with bereaved families to address their concerns, and ensuring accurate completion of Medical Certificates of the Cause of Death.

Applicants should have at least five years of post-registration experience and a commitment to ongoing training, including mandatory online modules and face-to-face sessions. The role requires sensitivity and empathy when dealing with families, alongside an ability to maintain professional independence and accountability within the medical structure. Successful candidates will join a team of ten Medical Examiners and three Medical Examiner Officers, contributing to the governance and continuous improvement of death certification processes in the North Northamptonshire district.
