The Department Assistant position at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, based in Basildon, involves providing essential portering services within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) East. The role includes the transportation of patients, specimens, medical equipment, and other goods, while adhering to health and safety regulations and maintaining hygiene standards. The position is highly demanding, requiring physical stamina as employees will be on their feet for extended periods and must handle various transportation tasks, including responding to emergency calls.

Working a daily shift of 11.5 hours, which includes long days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays, the Assistant will interact compassionately with service users, ensuring their dignity and privacy are respected. The role emphasises teamwork, flexibility, and a commitment to quality service, as well as adherence to Trust procedures and protocols. The successful candidate will maintain equipment, report any defects, and participate in ongoing training and appraisals, contributing to the overall performance and patient experience within the Trust.
