We are looking for a dedicated Band 5 Theatre Practitioner to join our dynamic perioperative team at Orpington theatres. In this vital role, you will deliver high-quality perioperative care, ensuring patient safety and efficiency in the operating theatre. This position is suitable for registered ODPs or Nurses who have a passion for theatre work and are committed to continuous professional development. The King's Elective Orthopaedic Unit in Orpington is part of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and provides comprehensive healthcare services for a diverse community. The unit consists of four state-of-the-art operating theatres, orthopaedic wards, and an admission lounge. It has been refurbished to a high standard, has excellent facilities for patients and staff, and is a short hop by train into London with all its attractions.

Please note that experience working in theatres is essential.

1. To work within both the nursing and multi disciplinary team to provide evidence based, holistic care to a group of patients from admission to discharge in department.
2. To take responsibility for managing and co-ordinating an assigned area of the department in the absence of more senior staff.
3. To participate in the teaching and supervision of junior staff and student learners as required.
4. To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide patients and relatives with high quality peri-operative care.
5. Particular emphasis is put at Kings on the need to ensure that all staff recognise their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient focused manner maintaining patient confidentiality at all time.
6. You are required to have excellent communication skills and communicate effectively with the MDT, matrons, and floor coordinators, be a team player, be empathetic, and be able to remain calm and steady under pressure.

7. You will participate and be a role model in the Perioperative care of patients who is undergoing orthopaedic surgery.

9. To rotate to other clinical areas within the department as required or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process.

10. To be involved with department audit.

11. To report adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy and assist in the investigation of such incidences as necessary.

1. To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC/HCPC, legal and Trust requirements
2. To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model.

Education and Research

1. To keep up to date with current research to promote evidence based practice within the clinical area.
2. To participate in Trust and Division initiatives to develop nursing practice
3. To assist in the teaching, supervision and practice development of junior colleagues and students
4. To actively participate in the training process by demonstrating and directly supervising.
5. To participate in research and audit within the department

Management

1. To manage an agreed workload with support from colleagues and senior staff as appropriate.
2. To exercise leadership where appropriate.
3. To ensure all Trust and local policies, protocols and procedures are adhered to by self and colleagues at all times
4. To participate with the monitoring of standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the department and report as necessary
5. To work within and support the multi-disciplinary team
6. To share knowledge and skills developed with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
7. To ensure effective admission/discharge of patients to the department liaising with other hospital departments as appropriate.
8. To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the Division and with associated clinical areas in the Trust.
9. To observe personal responsibility for resource management.
10. To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post

2. To achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Trust and Division.

5. To maintain your own personal and professional PREP/HCPC requirements, attending mandatory study sessions as required by the Trust.
