Westgate Surgery in Westgate-on-Sea is seeking a part-time Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) for an 18-hour workweek, specifically on Thursdays and Fridays. The role requires an independent prescriber who can autonomously conduct clinical consultations, assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions through both face-to-face and telephone interactions. The ANP will assist in achieving practice targets, manage referrals for investigations, and provide holistic healthcare by considering the physical, emotional, social, cultural, and mental health needs of patients.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills in managing undiagnosed issues, while also ensuring safe and effective practice within their competency limits. Responsibilities will include initiating therapeutic interventions, prescribing medications, evaluating diagnostic results, and contributing to the ongoing management of patients requiring regular reviews, including those with complex health needs. The position offers flexibility in salary based on experience and requires a collaborative approach within a supportive practice team.

This is a part time role of 18 hours a week, working Thursdays and Fridays.
For the right candidate the salary is negotiable, dependent on experience .
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner you will be required to see patients for a range of minor illnesses both as face to face and telephone consultations.
You will be confident at working autonomously carrying out clinical consultations, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and medication through prescribing.
Main duties of the job
- Acute illness clinics.
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating a range of acute, non-acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Independent Prescriber
- Assist with achieving practice targets.
- Completing any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner
About us
- Provides a holistic approach to healthcare, drawing form both the nursing and medical model of health and illness where appropriate in order to screen for the early signs of disease and diagnose acute problems.
- Accepts referrals from other disciplines unsupervised.
- Undertakes the independent and autonomous assessment of undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems with attention to physical, emotional, social, cultural and mental health issues.
- Uses sound judgement in assessing conflicting priorities and needs
- Formulates a diagnosis utilising medical diagnostic problem-solving skills including history taking physical examination, invasive and non invasive investigations which involves contact with potential infectious biological substances on a regular basis.
- Initiates appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions including radiology and laboratory investigations, with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, acceptability and efficacy.
- Prescribes pharmaceutical interventions within own competency
- Interprets and evaluates diagnostic test results in liaison with the patient and initiates treatment accordingly.
- Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence and to acknowledge limitations.
- Contribute to the practices management of patients needing regular review including those with dementia, mental health problems, learning disability
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
