The hospitals in the Heart, Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group are renowned nationally and internationally for excellence in diagnosis, treatment and research of patients with cardiothoracic diseases. We provide specialist heart and lung care at Guys', St Thomas', Royal Brompton and Harefield. We are looking for an enthusiastic consultant in adult cardiothoracic critical care medicine to join a dynamic and highly motivated clinical team based mainly at Harefield Hospital, although the successful applicant may be required to work in other locations in the Trust.
The post is a full-time post in adult cardiothoracic critical care medicine based at Harefield and with some scheduled clinical activity at Royal Brompton. Subject to mutual agreement it may be possible to arrange scheduled clinical activity at St Thomas'.
The post-holder's duties will include 6PA at Harefield and 4PA at Royal Brompton. Other direct clinical care activity including critical care outreach, follow up clinics, pre-op assessment and optimisation clinics, and adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia (if appropriate to the postholder) can be negotiated within the job plan depending on the experience of the successful applicant.
About us
Applicants are expected to have a wide experience in all aspects of adult critical care, dealing with patients following cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support devices (including VADs and ECMO), thoracic surgery and interventional cardiology.
In addition to holding full GMC registration and FFICM (or equivalent), the successful candidate will be in possession of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) including intensive care medicine or within 6 months of possession at the time of interview. A minimum of two years of experience in adult cardiothoracic intensive care at Registrar or Consultant level is essential, as is experience in echocardiography. A higher degree would be desirable as is experience in research, teaching or training.
