Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Newly Qualified GP to join our team for 4 sessions a week. Due to the changes in the ARRS scheme to introduce General Practitioners we are looking to expand our team by seeking a newly qualified General Practitioner to work alongside our practice and PCN staff.

This will be fixed term for 6 months with the extension of contract for a further year subject to the national primary care network contract.

The candidate we are looking for:

Is able to deliver high-quality patient care and stay up to date with clinical developments

Will take a fair share in the clinical workload, including participation in the doctor on-call rota, administrative work and home visits on a pro-rata basis.

Is keen to integrate into our team and join us for lunch/coffee breaks and meetings

Job summary:

The post-holder will provide high quality holistic care to the practice patient population dealing with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting


Clinical responsibilities:

  • The post-holder will be expected, within the agreed job plan, to undertake the normal duties and responsibilities of a GP including: face to face consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, filing pathology reports and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for chronic health conditions
  • Developing shared care plans with patients
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Participate in clinical meetings, audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the local prescribing formulary




Other responsibilities within the organisation:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life-long learning to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records and read-coding patient data
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
