Are you enthusiastic, reliable and experienced in venepuncture? If so we may have the right opportunities waiting for you within our Phlebotomy Service. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic and reliable to join our busy phlebotomy departments which are situated across the hospital sites and in the community. As a motivated individual you will demonstrate excellent communication skills along with basic IT skills which are both essential for this post.

The main duties of a phlebotomist include the collection of blood samples from both adults and children using a number of various techniques. This procedure will be carried out in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as in patients homes and community clinics. There are also training opportunities in the use of hand-held analysers for near patient testing.

Your experience must allow you to extract blood samples from patients/donors in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable/fit for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose.

The post requires commitment to professional behaviours, motivation and a flexible approach to working hours and duties. The ability to work as a member of a team and work without direct supervision are also skills that are required for this role.

Due to the high demand of our services, we have a number of part time and full-time vacancies which will include the need for weekend and Bank Holiday working.

Working hours are between 8.00am - 20.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.00 to 12.00 at weekends. Full and part time hours will be considered within these opening times.

The successful candidates will be based at one of LTHT hospital sites, however there will be a requirement to cross site cover on occasion.

A full driving licence would be desirable especially for community but not essential.

To perform Venepuncture and Veneole (capillary sampling) blood collection procedures (the piercing/puncturing of veins or the slicing of veneoles, which are both invasive, clinical procedures).

To extract blood samples from patients/donors in a manner that makes the blood sample suitable/fit for analytical, therapeutic or diagnostic testing and purpose.

Working on hospital wards, clinics, community-based clinics within other organisations & NHS Trusts and also in the patients domicile
