Band 6: £44,806 to £53,134 a year per annum pro rata  PERMANENT 

The admission and pre-assessment team in Chelsea, are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to complete our team. The team consists of Nurses, anaesthetist, health care assistants, administrators, technician (CPET and ECHO), research nurses and anaemia service CNS.

We provide a nurse led clinic supported by our anaesthetic consultants for patients undergoing surgery for a range of procedures, and specialties. We also support the elective admission pathway in the hospital and work closely with the Clinical site practitioners. We also work collaboratively with the Endoscopy, interventional radiology, private care and day surgery teams.

Our aim is to provide safe effective pre-operative care and we are responsible for ensuring a safe patient assessment in line with Royal Marsden and National guidelines and deliver a high standard of care with a patient centred approach.

Recently this team has supported the pre-operative pathway for oncology patients across London to continue to deliver as much cancer treatment as possible, with the initial focus being surgery.

We are looking for someone with a positive and progressive attitude, ability to problem solve, competent in advanced assessment skill and works well in a multi-disciplinary team.

  • To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients.
  • To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or plans.
  • To participate fully in the day to day organisation and running of clinical trials including the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering a clinical trial and liaison as required withtrial sponsors.
  • To assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC code of conduct. There is an expectation for post holders:

  • Counterchecking patients vital signs, blood results, patient body surface area, chemotherapy prescription and consent before administration of treatment.
  • Educating patients on their treatment such as indications and side effects.
  • Ensuring necessary medication and follow up appointments are obtained.
  • To plan, document, deliver and evaluate care plans from admission through to discharge / transfer discussing this with the patient, their family and multi-disciplinary teams and to alert the Sister/Charge Nurse of any changes. To set goals for each of the identified nursing issues and encourage / teach other nursing staff to do the same. To help the patient achieve set goals through care planning.
  • As a specialist cancer nurse, to assess the educational and informational needs of the patient and family. This includes producing and using appropriate materials to ensure optimumunderstanding of nursing care and the likely outcome.
