This role would suit a Registered Nurse, Registered Allied Health Professional or Counsellor with previous experience in Palliative Care and a teaching environment. St Michaels Hospice has a dynamic Education team offering a variety of internal and external training opportunities to a wide audience. They bring a wealth of experience and specialist skills, and due to a promotion are now looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Teacher Practitioner to join the team. This is an exciting role for an individual who has experience of working within Palliative Care where you can share your knowledge and skills with others. No two days are identical, with scope for the post holder to shape and develop the training activities offered in line with Hospice strategies. Where appropriate, the post holder would continue to have some clinical practice hours as part of their own CPD and wider team development. This role provides the opportunity to enhance the delivery of palliative and end of life care, promoting evidence-based practice internally and externally.

Reports to: Lead Teacher/Practitioner
Responsible for: Volunteer librarian (x1) In- house students (TNA / RNDA & others) (x 2-6)
Financial Responsibility: Library budget (circa £5K)
Job Purpose: To educate train and support clinical & non-clinical professionals, staff and volunteers to enhance the delivery of palliative & end of life care, promoting evidence based practise internally and externally.
Responsibility Areas:
Service Delivery
-Delivers academic and vocational teaching across a range of palliative care topics including assessment of learners.
-Identifies & supports staff in the clinical setting with their on-going CPD includes internal & external students.
-Develops learning materials and facilitates learning with a wide range of individuals and groups internal and external. Ensuring these meet any appropriate accreditation criteria.
-Contributes to the effectiveness of work experience programmes
-Contributes to operation of library & stock renewal
-Leads, manages & supports delivery of functional skills training in line with National Numeracy & BKSB (Health Education England)
Planning
-Contribute to the planning and managing of the annual programme of education.
-Plans learning and teaching activities linked to service delivery needs.
-Plans, costs and delivers tailor-made training to a variety of external organisations & individuals
- Contributes to planning individualised induction and on-going training requirements for clinical & non-clinical staff & volunteers
Communication
-Represents the organisation externally e.g. Higher Education, care homes; care agencies, NHS Trusts, wider hospice movement, health and social care education focus groups.
-Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure work streams complement each other.
-Shares evidence-based knowledge and skills internally and externally which may result in influencing and changing practice to achieve desired outcomes
Problem Solving and Innovation
Develops resources and strategies for promotion of best practice. Responds to internal & external requests for clinical support & advice Ensures learning and teaching is based on appropriate evidence base linked to regulatory frameworks e.g. National Institute for Clinical Effectiveness; Nursing & Midwifery Council; Allied Health Professions Council; General Medical Council; Care Quality Commission. Contributes to the development of new learning programmes Contributes to the development of clinical policies and care plans
Person Specification 1) Specialist Knowledge and Experience Essential
Professional Registration (e.g. Nursing/AHP / BACP) Relevant 1st level degree as minimum qualification Specialist Palliative care experience in a clinical care setting NVQ Assessor qualification or equivalent Mentoring & Assessor qualification Teaching qualification (Post Graduate Certificate of Education or equivalent) or willing to work towards. IT Skills across a range of IT Software
Desirable Experience of palliative care training at a variety of levels. Leadership & Management or Coaching qualification. MSc level qualification in a relevant subject (or willing to work towards)

3) Special Conditions This post is conditional to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Requirement to work flexibly to meet needs of the service. Must be willing to travel across the county and beyond as required. Required to work occasional evenings and weekends. Required to work in a variety of clinical settings with direct patient / care contact
