Fownhope Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Dispenser to work at our friendly rural surgery (negotiable up to 37.5 hours a week).

Applications are welcomed from people with an NVQ2 Dispensing qualification, or who are un-qualified but have a desire to work within a busy dispensary. In this case support towards qualification will be provided after satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

Experience in customer service, particularly in the health sector is desirable.

The purpose of the role is to assist in the smooth running of the dispensary and to dispense medications as requested by the senior dispenser. Main duties include:

Serving patients at the hatch and by telephone

Stock management for medication and consumables

Counting and checking prescriptions for submission to the PPA

Issuing repeat scripts

Preparing medications for blister packs

Specific Responsibilities

Dispensary

  • Serve patients at the hatch and by telephone
  • Stock management for medication and consumables
  • Count and check prescriptions ready for submission to the PPA
  • Shred confidential information from dispensary
  • Photocopy information as requested
  • Issue repeat scripts
  • Prepare medication orders
  • Use Practice IT systems to prepare and label medication
  • Prepare medication blister packs for patients
  • Provide cover as reasonably requested for other dispensary staff
  • Stock and operate the PharmVend dispensary machine

General

  • Assist in promoting and maintaining own and others health and safety and security
  • Promote the good reputation of the surgery
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on all matters relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other health workers and the business of the practice
  • Support equality, diversity and the rights of patients and carers
  • Participate in training programmes as requested by the practice to enable the efficient running of the practice and meet any professional minimum competence requirements
  • Work in accordance with practice protocols
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably requested
