This is an exciting opportunity funded by the NHS England programme for paid opportunities for aspiring clinical psychologists to gain clinical experience. We have funding for one full-time post for six months and would welcome sharing this between two or more candidates.
Everton in the Community is one of the UK's top sporting charities, offering more than 60 programmes covering a range of social issues including health, employability, anti-social behaviour, crime, education, dementia, poverty, youth engagement, youth justice and disability.
In 2023, a purpose-built mental health and wellbeing hub, The People's Place was established as part of the charity's work. Since then, for nine months of the year, two trainee clinical psychologists from Lancaster University have been based there. Their work has involved working with individual service users, running groups, developing materials and bringing a psychological perspective to the broader work of the organisation.
The psychologist funded by this programme will work alongside the trainees, helping to run groups, to support other programmes by bringing a psychological perspective and to develop materials for patients, and contributing to service evaluation and audit.
Flexible working hours will be offered to accommodate caring responsibilities and, because the People's Place is on one site, access to a car is not required.
Undertakes clinically supervised psychological assessment and intervention for adult service users at the People's Place, involving their families, carers, staff and volunteers as appropriate.
Under supervision, plans, organises and delivers teaching and training on a variety of psychoeducational topics.
Undertakes relevant research and audit under supervision of more experienced psychologists
Under supervision, conducts direct clinical assessment and intervention. Applying a range of psychological theories and models to analyse, understand and interpret complex situations and behaviours in order to formulate solutions and treatment which is tailored to individuals needs. This requires the capacity to engage in intense concentration for prolonged periods of time. The post holder works under the supervision of a more experienced psychologist at all times and engages in weekly supervision (in accordance with good practice guidelines). They remain responsible for following local policies and procedures. Under supervision, demonstrates effective communication of complex and sensitive information. This involves working alone with patients who may be in an emotional or distressed state and could present with physically and verbally challenging behaviour (and assessing and managing patients with sensory and/or cognitive impairment). This requires a high level of interpersonal and communication skills. Under supervision, provides psychoeducation on relevant aspects of physical health to staff, volunteers, service users and carers at the Peoples Place. Under supervision, takes responsibility for managing own time.
