The Blackburn with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology for a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week) at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. The ideal candidate should be hardworking, reliable, and flexible, with strong teamwork skills. The role involves performing a variety of manual and automated laboratory procedures, including specimen reception, microtomy, cryotomy, non-gynae cytology, and immunocytochemistry, while also ensuring quality control and monitoring of results.

Additionally, the successful applicant will be responsible for managing their own workload, troubleshooting issues, and training students and staff. The Cellular Pathology department processes approximately 33,000 histology and 3,000 non-gynae cytology requests annually, making it essential for candidates to clearly demonstrate how they meet the person's specification in their applications to be considered for an interview.
