This new role offers a unique and impactful opportunity to provide vital psychological support to individuals affected by the aftermath of the Infected Blood Inquiry (IBPS beneficiaries), while also serving a broader population within the Haemophilia Centre.
This role is ideal for someone with significant experience in providing psychological support in healthcare settings, particularly for individuals facing long-term health conditions or traumatic life experiences. Experience with working with people who have haemophilia or similar complex conditions would be highly beneficial, although not strictly necessary. The ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team, will be essential for success in this role.

Development & Delivery of Specialist Psychological Services

Tailored Support for IBPS Beneficiaries:The post holder will be responsible for designing, implementing, overseeing a specialized psychological support service to meet the specific needs of IBPS beneficiaries. This will involve understanding the unique psychological and emotional impacts of the inquiry on those infected and affected, and developing services that can address these needs.

Psychological Services for Haemophilia Patients:In addition to IBPS beneficiaries, the post holder will provide psychological support for patients within the Haemophilia Centre who are living with haemophilia and other related bleeding disorders.

In-Person and Remote Support:The role includes delivering psychological support both in-person and via remote platforms, ensuring accessibility for patients wherever they are located. This will involve managing patient pathways and referrals, coordinating the care journey for each individual to ensure they receive the appropriate level of psychological support.

- Evaluating Service Effectiveness:You will have the responsibility to systematically evaluate the psychological services provided to ensure they are effectively meeting the needs of the patients. This includes ongoing assessment of patient satisfaction, therapeutic outcomes, and the continuous improvement of service delivery over time.

Collaborating with Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs):As part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), the post holder will work closely with nurses, medical staff, and consultant haematologists to ensure that psychological care is integrated into the wider care plan. The aim is to provide holistic care for the patient, addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of their treatment.

Psychosocial Approach to Care Planning:The post holder will provide psychosocial input to the wider MDT, ensuring that psychological considerations are incorporated into the overall care planning for each patient. This includes providing advice on how to manage the psychological impact of bleeding disorders and, in the case of IBPS beneficiaries, the trauma and distress caused by the inquiry's outcomes.

Consultation and Advice:The post holder will also offer consultation and expert advice to other healthcare professionals involved in the patients care, particularly regarding the psychological aspects of care for patients with haemophilia and IBPS beneficiaries. This could involve direct input into decision-making and supporting staff in addressing psychological challenges in patient management.
